ABOUT US
MarkerHistory.com was founded to bring the unique narrative of
historical
road markers to a wider audience, by making them accessible in their homes, schools and businesses. To do this we have created the Historical Marker Collection - a lavishly-photographed series of pictorial guidebooks, photography prints and postcards.
Historical road markers tell the story of significant places, events
and people that define our society's past and have shaped who we are
today. When the first historical road marker programs were created in
the 1920’s, people took Sunday drives, pulled over at waysides, and
read the historical road markers.
Nearly everyone knows what historical road markers look like, and where
they are located near their homes and along their commutes. However, fewer and fewer
people make the time to stop and read the markers. In many cases, even
if they want to, there is no safe place to pullover. Beyond students
of history, anecdotal evidence suggests that most people who read
historical road markers today are joggers, cyclists and commuters
moving in slow rush hour traffic. We believe there is a real risk that much of that valuable
history will be lost over time due to the many distractions and fast pace of
life in today's society.
Our Historical Marker Collection series of pictorial
guidebooks, photography prints and postcards are intended to bring the unique narrative of
historical
road markers to a wider audience, by making them accessible in their homes, schools and businesses.
We are dedicated to providing a great customer experience and back that commitment with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on our products.
GIVING BACK
We are committed to helping sustain historical road marker programs and the promotion of historic preservation. We give back a portion of our retail sales to directly fund historical road marker programs. We promote historic preservation by providing wholesale pricing to historical societies and schools in connection with their fund raising activities.
THE HISTORICAL MARKER COLLECTION series
Our guidebooks each contain a full page color image of
the markers relating to a specific geographic region such as the
Tidewater region or subject such as the Civil War, as well as
convenient marker title, marker number, gps coordinate and geographic
location indexes for easy reference. The marker images are grouped by
key historic periods and arranged chronologically within each,
providing a unique regional/subject overview of significant places,
events and people that define our past and have shaped who we are today.
Our photography prints contain images of 12, 15 or 20
historical markers and measure 24"x36" . The markers are grouped geographically by city,
county and region or by topic such as the civil war or African American
history.
Our post cards each display the image of one historical marker.
